RII20209 Certificate II in Surface Extraction Operations

This qualification reflects the role of individuals working as an operator on sites such as an open cut coal mine, a quarry or an open cut metalliferous mine, undertaking a prescribed range of tasks involving known routines and procedures, extracting, loading and transporting minerals, which include coal, metal ore, mineral sand and rock for construction purposes/and taking some responsibility for the quality of work outcomes.

This qualification reflects the role of employees such as production operators in an open cut mine or quarry, who perform tasks involving a broad range of skilled applications in a varied work context, using some discretion and judgement in selecting equipment, services or contingency measures.

Nara Training & Assessing offers this qualification under traineeship arrangements. However, individual units are available on request.

A traineeship combines practical work experience with structured training to provide a nationally recognised qualification. Trainees must be employed in the relevant industry sector to undertake a traineeship. Learning to drive backhoes, bulldozers, excavators, front-end loaders, graders, scrapers, skid steer loaders, rollers and forklift trucks; Operating various attachments to level, excavate, move and load earth, rock and other material; Working in many areas from building sites to mining operations.

This qualification reflects the role of employees such as a supervisor or team leader working in an open cut mine or quarry. They perform tasks involving a broad range of varied activities most of which are complex and non-routine. They are responsible for the quantity and quality of the output of others, contribute to the development of technical solutions to non-routine problems and apply safety management plans to the workplace.
